Tune your profile for better scores
Fifteen minutes of profile work changes every score in the product. Here's how to spend them.
Every fit score is just your profile × an opportunity (the exact weights). A vague profile makes every result less selective. Start with the four canonical fit inputs below, then complete vehicles, performance, partners, growth targets, and capacity in the configuration center.
1. NAICS codes (+40 each match)
- Add your primary NAICS plus the 2–4 adjacent codes you genuinely deliver under — the codes on your past awards are the ground truth (check your SAM registration).
- Use full six-digit codes.
541512matches; "5415" matches nothing. - Don't pad. Ten NAICS you can't staff just fills your radar with work you'd no-bid anyway.
2. Target agencies (+25)
- Agency matching is keyword-based against the opportunity's issuing path —
"NASA"matches NASA.GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER. - Prefer the distinctive token:
Veterans AffairsbeatsVA(two letters over-match). - List agencies where you have past performance, relationships, or a clearance story — not the whole government.
3. Certifications (+20 held / −15 locked out)
- Only list set-asides you actually hold — the lockout penalty exists precisely so restricted competitions you can't enter sink down the radar.
- Locked out of an attractive set-aside? That's what the teaming partner search on each opportunity is for — find a certified partner instead of losing the deal.
4. Capability keywords (+15)
| Works | Doesn't | Why |
|---|---|---|
cybersecurity | services | Keywords match opportunity titles — generic words match everything and mean nothing. |
cloud migration | IT | Two-word phrases that appear verbatim in titles are the sweet spot. |
HVAC | quality | Name the deliverable, not the virtue. |
Then iterate against the radar
- Open /radar and read the why-chips on your top ten — every point names the profile input that earned it.
- Seeing junk with high scores? A keyword or NAICS is too broad — remove it.
- Missing deals you know about? Search one, open its chips, and see which input would have matched — add that.
- Re-run monthly. Your profile is a targeting instrument, not a form you fill once.
